What an adjustable base changes day to day
Most people buy an adjustable base for the ordinary hours rather than the sleeping ones: reading, watching something, working on a laptop, all without a tower of pillows that slides apart by the end of the evening. Raising the foot end at the end of a long day is the other habit people form quickly. The Zero Gravity preset does both at once from a single button, so the position you use most is one press away rather than a fiddle with two controls.
Two practical points before you choose. The mattress has to be able to bend with the base — pocket-spring, foam and latex mattresses built for adjustable bases will articulate, while a rigid or heavily reinforced traditional mattress will not, so check yours or choose one made for the job. And the sectioned legs matter more than they sound: they let the base be set at a height that works with your room and with a headboard or surround, rather than forcing the bed to sit wherever it lands.
One choice worth understanding before you order is the split configuration. A split base is two independent halves under one bed: each side raises and lowers on its own handset, so one person can sit up to read while the other stays flat. A Split Queen is made up of two halves 77 cm wide, and a Split King is two long singles side by side — which means each half takes its own mattress, and the pair is made up as one bed on top. If only one person needs the movement, a standard size costs less and does the job; if both do, a split is the reason people stop arguing about the handset.
