Leather Where You Sit, and No Pretending About the Rest

The Denmark is upholstered in leather across the seating area — the surfaces you actually sit against — and PVC everywhere else. We would rather tell you that plainly than call the whole chair leather and let you work it out later. It is a common way to build a chair and a sensible one: hide where it touches you, at a price a fully leather chair does not reach. Two motors, a 52 cm seat, and a powered lift. In blue, black or mink.

Key Features

  • Leather on the seating surfaces, PVC elsewhere — stated up front rather than buried in a specification.
  • Two motors — backrest and leg rest move independently, so your feet can come up while you stay sitting upright.
  • Powered lift — the seat tips forward to bring you towards standing, and lowers you back into the chair under control.
  • 52 cm seat width, 50 cm seat depth — regular sizing, for adults of average height and build.
  • Blue, black or mink.

What Part Leather Actually Means, and Why It Is Not a Trick

Leather is expensive, and most of a chair never touches anybody. The outer arms, the back panel, the sides below the cushion line — nobody sits against those. So a part-leather chair puts real hide on the surfaces that matter and a coated material on the ones that do not, and passes the difference on in the price. That is a legitimate way to build furniture. What is not legitimate is calling the finished thing “leather” and hoping nobody asks, which is why we say it in the first line instead of the last.

Here is what it means in practice. The leather parts will soften and mark the way leather does, taking on the shape of whoever sits there. The PVC parts will not — they wipe clean easily and stay looking much the same, which means that after some years the two can age at slightly different rates. Neither material is fragile, and on the panels you never touch the difference hardly registers. But it is worth knowing at the start rather than being surprised by it later. Ask us how to look after each one before you take it home; they do not want the same treatment.

Before You Buy

  • Ask us to show you where the leather stops. Run your hand over the seat, the inner arms and the back panel and feel the change yourself. It takes ten seconds and it settles the question better than any label.
  • Ask how to care for both materials. Leather and PVC want different products, and using the wrong one on either will shorten its life.
  • Ask us the maximum user weight. We will not print a figure we have not confirmed — ask in store and we will get it for you in writing.
  • Run the three fit checks. Feet flat on the floor, two fingers of clearance behind the knee, elbows landing naturally on the arms. Tell us which feels wrong and we will point you at a size that fixes it.
  • Ask whether it has battery backup. If the power goes out while the chair is reclined, a backup battery is what brings it upright again.
  • Ask for the overall footprint and the clearance behind it when reclined. It arrives in two cartons, so check doorways and hallway turns before delivery day.
  • Ask about warranty and who services it in WA, and whether it can be supplied under a Home Care Package, NDIS plan or DVA entitlement.

Try It at Beds4U

Upholstery is the one thing photographs are worst at. Leather and a good coated material can look identical on a screen and feel nothing alike under your hand, which is exactly why we would rather you came and touched it. Sit in it, run the back and legs separately, take it up to standing, and feel where the materials change. Call your nearest store first and we will tell you which of our WA showrooms has the Denmark on the floor and in which colour.
