Why the drawers sit at the foot, and what tufting does

Where storage opens decides where a bed can go. Side drawers need clear floor along both flanks, which is the space bedside tables usually occupy; a lifting platform needs the bed surface cleared first. Foot drawers ask for none of that — they need room at the end of the bed instead, so the Bowen suits a room where the bed sits snugly between furniture or with one side against a wall. The trade-off is worth measuring for: the foot of the bed is often the walking route to the door, so check a drawer can extend fully without blocking the path.

The headboard is the other half of it. Button tufting is an upholstery technique rather than a decoration: each button is drawn through the padding and anchored behind, which holds the filling in place so the headboard keeps its shape instead of flattening through the middle over the years you lean on it. The same buttons create the shadow lines that give a tall headboard depth rather than reading as one flat panel.
