What fluting does, and how the storage works
Fluting is a run of vertical ribs worked across a panel — a detail borrowed from classical columns and revived through contemporary furniture. What it adds is texture rather than colour. The ribs pick up light along one side and hold shadow along the other, so a plain white headboard reads with depth instead of as one flat expanse, and it shifts through the day as the light in the room moves. It is a detail that photographs poorly and works in person, which is worth knowing before ruling it in or out online. The practical note: dust settles into the grooves, so a soft brush or a vacuum attachment run along the flutes is the upkeep.
Underneath, the gas-lift turns the entire area below the mattress into storage. The struts carry the platform on the way up and hold it there, so spare bedding, luggage and the seasonal changeover load from standing height and disappear when the platform lowers. Leave room to stand beside the bed while it is raised, and match the mattress weight to the strut rating. The inbuilt light does the small job well: enough to see by at night without reaching for a lamp. Across four sizes, the same fluting and the same storage carry from a King Single in a smaller room through to the King.
